ISIS claims attack on oil tanker in Deir ez-Zor countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Tuesday responsibility for targeting an oil tanker in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, according to outlets affiliated with the group.
ISIS activity has increased in recent weeks, particularly in areas of Deir ez-Zor and its surroundings. Since the start of this week, the group has announced three attacks in the region, reflecting its continued attempts to destabilize security in territories still struggling with the remnants of conflict.
Amaq News Agency, which is close to ISIS, issued a statement saying that the group’s militants “opened fire with machine guns on an oil tanker last Saturday near the town of Diban, east of Deir ez-Zor.”
According to the statement, the attack caused damage to the tanker, after which the attackers withdrew safely to their positions.
