Israel expands operations with deadly strike near Syria’s Daraa
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army announced on Friday that it carried out a series of “preemptive” field operations in southern Syria, targeting military equipment discovered during extensive search and sweep missions. The army released photos and video recordings documenting its forces’ activities on the ground.
According to the official statement, the operations involved the “Spearhead Brigade” (Brigade 55), a reserve unit reactivated in recent months, operating under the command of Division 210 deployed in the area.
The statement said the aim of the operations was to “strengthen preemptive defense and ensure the security of Israeli citizens, particularly residents of the Golan Heights.”
During the missions, Israeli forces reportedly uncovered various weapons, including missile components and RPG launchers, which were destroyed immediately after being seized. The army confirmed that Division 210 units remain deployed in southern Syria and continue their field activities.
In a related development, an Israeli drone strike on Thursday targeted three vehicles equipped with heavy 23 mm machine guns along the Daraa–Damascus highway. Local sources reported that the attack killed 12 tribal members traveling in the convoy.
The Israeli army did not issue further details regarding the identities of those killed or the affiliation of the targeted vehicles. The incident marks one of the deadliest strikes in recent weeks in southern Syria, underscoring the intensity of ongoing military activity in the region.
