Masoud Barzani calls for peaceful settlement between Syrian Kurds, Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, said on Tuesday that he hopes Syria’s Kurds will be able to resolve their issues with the Syrian transitional government through peaceful and democratic means.

Speaking during the second day of the Peace and Security Forum in the Middle East at the American University of Duhok, Barzani stated, “A golden opportunity has also arisen for Syria. We hope that all components, including Kurds and other groups, will reach agreements peacefully and democratically with the current government.”

He added that they hope that the Kurds and other communities will resolve “problems and creating conditions for all to live together harmoniously.”

Barzani also addressed the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS), saying that ISIS was an extremely dangerous phenomenon, and it is still searching for opportunities—it has not been eradicated yet.
