Israeli forces advance deeper into Quneitra in new incursion
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces carried out a new ground incursion into central Quneitra countryside on Monday evening, deploying military vehicles and dozens of personnel, local sources reported, amid a noticeable increase in cross-border movements in southern Syria.
Earlier in the day, Israeli troops had set up a temporary military checkpoint inside rural Quneitra following a separate incursion, marking the second such operation within hours. The movements coincided with the presence of Israeli warplanes flying over the area, according to local monitoring.
A local source told North Press that the evening force included “a tank and four pickup vehicles carrying no fewer than 30 soldiers.” The source added that the Israeli unit moved into the village of Umm A’zam, conducted a brief patrol, and then halted on the village’s northern outskirts, where troops spread out across the surrounding farmlands.
The correspondent of North Press confirmed that the incursion followed a field tour earlier in the day by a group of Syrian army officers in the same area. Reports circulated locally that a Russian delegation had accompanied the Syrian officers, though no official statement was issued to verify the information.
