The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS announced  on Wednesday that Syria’s formal accession to the coalition represents a pivotal moment in regional cooperation against terrorism.

The statement followed Syria’s official signing of a partnership agreement aimed at enhancing joint efforts to combat the Islamic State (ISIS).

On Tuesday, diplomats from the US Embassy in Syria described the move as “a defining moment in Syria’s history and in the global war on terror.” They emphasized that Syria’s inclusion will bring training and security cooperation, ultimately contributing to the protection of all Syrians from extremist threats.

The Coalition added in a Facebook post that Syria’s entry raises the number of member states to 90, reinforcing international efforts to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS.

Syria’s accession comes amid broader shifts in regional dynamics, following President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s recent visit to Washington and his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The visit marked the first time a Syrian head of state has entered the White House since Syria’s independence.

The partnership agreement is expected to include intelligence sharing, counterterrorism coordination, and capacity-building programs. While specific operational details have not been disclosed, coalition officials indicated that Syria’s role will be integrated into existing frameworks for regional security.
