Syria confirms ongoing security talks with Israel under 1974 accord

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, said on Monday that discussions on a security agreement between Syria and Israel are ongoing and are based on the 1974 disengagement accord.

In an interview with the Saudi Al-Arabiya news channel, Olabi stated that talks with Tel Aviv continue and focus on technical matters related to border demarcation and troop deployment zones, emphasizing that the goal is to address the security concerns of both sides.

On Sunday, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is close to finalizing a comprehensive security deal involving understandings between Syria and Israel, alongside Damascus’s potential inclusion in the Abraham Accords.

Olabi added that what they seek is peace and security for the Syrian people, so they can move forward with rebuilding the country.

He stressed that any final agreement with Israel will be officially announced once concluded.

In September, Olabi had stated that negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv had reached advanced stages, noting at the time that “the ball is in Israel’s court.”
