SDC condemns deadly attack on civilian bus in Damascus–Suwayda

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) condemned on Wednesday the deadly attack targeting a bus carrying civilians on the Damascus–Suwayda highway, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, including among women and children.

In an official statement, the SDC described the assault as a “horrific crime” that demonstrates “a dangerous disregard for the sanctity of human life.”

It stressed that such acts threaten national stability and social cohesion at a time when Syrians urgently need security and peace.

The SDC extended deepest condolences to the families of the victims and called on the Syrian transitional government to launch an immediate and transparent investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.

On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus at Marjana gas station on the Damascus–Suwayda highway, resulting in the killing of two civilians and the injury of 11 others including children.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in southern Syria, particularly in Suwayda, where local groups — including the National Guard — have recently clashed with security forces and armed gangs allegedly operating under the cover of government institutions.
