DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Security forces affiliated with the Syrian transitional government arrested on Friday two former members of Iranian-backed militias during a raid in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A security source told North Press that, acting on intelligence information, a patrol raided the home of Abdullah al-Ahmad, a former member of an Iran-backed militia who had fled to Iraq following the collapse of the former Syrian regime.
It remains unclear when or how al-Ahmad returned to Syria.
The source added that the patrol detained al-Ahmad and another individual who was with him. The forces also seized several documents and pieces of equipment found in their possession.
According to the source, the detainees were transferred to a security center for interrogation, without disclosing further details about the nature of the confiscated materials or the purpose of the suspects’ return to the country.
