Gunmen attack SDF post in Deir ez-Zor, ISIS claims separate attack in Raqqa
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen attacked on Tuesday a military post belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, while the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for a separate assault on SDF forces in the Raqqa countryside.
An SDF military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified assailants targeted an SDF position in the town of al-Bahra, east of Deir ez-Zor, with a shell and machine gun fire.
The source said that clashes erupted between the two sides following the attack, before the gunmen were forced to withdraw.
He confirmed that the incident caused only material damage, with no casualties reported.
According to the source, al-Bahra has witnessed several similar attacks and assassination attempts in recent weeks, noting that “the perpetrators typically flee toward areas west of the Euphrates after carrying out their operations.”
Meanwhile, ISIS claimed through its affiliated media outlets that its members targeted an SDF military vehicle near Tel al-Samen in the Raqqa countryside, reportedly injuring two fighters.
The SDF has not yet issued an official statement regarding either incident.
