Turkish, Syrian officials discuss security cooperation in Ankara meeting

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Sunday that Syria’s security is inseparable from that of Turkey, affirming Ankara’s continued commitment to supporting the Syrian people and strengthening coordination with Damascus.

Fidan’s remarks came following a high-level security meeting held in the Turkish capital, Ankara, attended by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, National Intelligence head Ibrahim Kalin, and their Syrian counterparts—Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra, and intelligence chief Hussein al-Salameh.

“We do not see Syria’s security as separate from Türkiye’s. We will continue to provide all kinds of support to our Syrian brothers on this path,” Fidan said in a statement published on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.

The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and enhance cooperation aimed at preserving Syria’s stability and territorial integrity.

Fidan noted that the talks in Ankara allowed for a comprehensive review of the strategic dimensions of Turkish-Syrian relations and future joint security measures.

According to Fidan, the meeting discussed practical steps to ensure Syria’s security while protecting its unity and sovereignty.

He emphasized that the Syrian administration has shown determination to overcome current challenges and that extensive contacts between Ankara and Damascus are ongoing across multiple levels following recent political developments.
