Asayish foil attack on checkpoint in Deir ez-Zor countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Saturday that two individuals affiliated with terrorist cells attacked on Friday one of their checkpoints in the town of al-Kasrah, northwest of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
According to a statement released by the Asayish, the assailants, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the checkpoint.
The forces immediately returned fire, prompting the attackers to flee. No casualties were reported among the Asayish personnel.
Following the incident, Asayish units conducted a field patrol to inspect the area, pursue the perpetrators, and reinforce security measures to prevent further attacks.
The statement emphasized that the Asayish will continue fulfilling their duty to protect civilians and maintain security and stability across all areas of North and East Syria.
The Deir ez-Zor countryside has witnessed recurring attacks targeting checkpoints and patrols of the Asayish and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), often attributed to ISIS sleeper cells operating in the region.
Despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations supported by the Global Coalition, ISIS remnants continue to exploit security gaps and tribal tensions, particularly in rural areas along the Euphrates River. The Asayish and SDF frequently carry out raids and security campaigns to dismantle these networks and prevent further destabilization.
