Israel arrests five Syrians near Quneitra in border incident
QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces arrested five Syrian civilians on Friday in an operation west of Saida al-Hanout village in southern Quneitra countryside, near the Yarmouk Valley along the Golan border, local sources reported.
According to a local source speaking to North Press, an Israeli patrol crossed the separation line and detained the five men while they were working in their agricultural lands near the border, before transferring them inside the occupied Golan.
The detainees were identified as: Hussein Hashim Hamad, Ali Akram al-Shanour, Ahmad Hussein al-Jawhar, Maher Eid al-Ruba’i, and Hamza Nashmi al-Kaeed, all residents of southern Quneitra countryside engaged in farming and livestock grazing.
The source added that the reasons for their arrest remain unclear, noting that similar incidents have occurred sporadically along the Quneitra–Golan border. These events often involve the detention of Syrian civilians engaged in agriculture or crossing near the border areas.
No official statement was issued by Israeli military forces regarding the latest detentions. Meanwhile, local sources said that families of the detainees have appealed for their immediate release, emphasizing that they were carrying out routine agricultural work.
This incident comes amid a pattern of periodic arrests and military activity along the Quneitra–Golan border, which has seen heightened tensions in recent months due to unresolved territorial disputes and security concerns.
