Mazloum Abdi reaffirms SDF commitment to regional defense and justice
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reaffirmed on Friday his forces’ commitment to defending the region and strengthening the values of justice and diversity, marking the 10th anniversary of the SDF’s founding.
In a post on the X platform, Abdi stated, “On the 10th anniversary of our forces, we honor the sacrifices of our martyrs and salute the support of our people who stood with us through a decade of struggle.”
He added, “We renew our commitment to defending our people and our land, and to strengthening the values of justice, participation, and diversity, reflecting the will of all Syrians for a unified, safe, and pluralistic Syria.”
The SDF General Command also issued a statement on the occasion, expressing pride and congratulations to “the heroes of the SDF and the people of north and east Syria and all of Syria, who together formed the foundation of this national and inclusive project born from the will of the people and their belief in the right to a free and dignified life.”
The statement highlighted that “at a time when many forces were drawn into civil war, the SDF chose a different path — the path of defending the homeland and humanity.”
Over the past decade, the SDF has played a key role in protecting towns and cities across the region, leading counterterrorism operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) and maintaining regional security through coordination with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The statement further noted that through its “national and democratic project, the SDF has established a unique model of self-administration and civil governance based on freedom, equality, and social justice.”
The SDF, founded in October 2015, emerged from a coalition of Kurdish, Arab, and other local forces and has since become a major actor in Syria’s ongoing conflict, maintaining security and stability in the country’s northeast.
