AANES Deputy says Pro-Syrian factions breach truce in Aleppo
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Badran Chiya Kurd, Deputy Co-chair of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Saturday that armed factions affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government have not abided by the ceasefire reached yesterday between the AANES and Damascus, which aimed at halting hostilities in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.
On Tuesday, the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) agreed to a ceasefire across all frontlines between them, following a night of heavy security tension in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods that left several casualties on both sides
Chiya Kurd added in a post on X that the ongoing siege on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh proves that “the Ankara-backed armed groups do not adhere to the decisions of the so-called Transitional Government, but rather implement external agendas that contradict Syrian national interests.”
Chiya Kurd stressed “the urgent need for international and regional mediators to intervene and pressure Ankara to cease its interventions in Syrian internal affairs.”
He pointed out that Syria’s national interest lies in dialogue and direct negotiation among Syrians themselves, away from regional polarization and external dictates, according to his post on X.
