Syrian president meets US envoy, CENTCOM chief on stability talk
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Presidency announced Tuesday the topics discussed during a high-level meeting between President Ahmad al-Shara, US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack, and US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.
Earlier on Tuesday, a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), headed by General Mazloum Abdi, arrived in Damascus for discussions with President al-Shara concerning the transitional phase in Syria.
According to an official statement released by the Syrian Presidency on its verified page, “President Ahmad al-Shara received US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack and US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, in the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani, Defense Minister Muthaf Abu Qasra, and Head of the General Intelligence Directorate Hussein al-Salama.”
The statement confirmed that the meeting focused on recent developments in Syria, supporting the political process, and enhancing security and stability. The discussions also addressed mechanisms for implementing the March 10 agreement, with emphasis on preserving Syria’s territorial unity and sovereignty.
The arrival of the SDF delegation comes amid ongoing coordination between Damascus and northeast Syrian authorities to facilitate a political transition and address long-standing security challenges. The SDF, as the main security force in northeast Syria, plays a central role in maintaining stability and facilitating cooperation with regional and international actors.
This meeting marks one of the rare high-level interactions involving the Syrian Presidency, US representatives, and SDF leadership, underlining the importance of dialogue in addressing Syria’s complex political and security situation.
The March 10 agreement, reached in previous talks, remains a key framework for cooperation between Damascus and northeast Syria, and is considered essential for advancing stability in the region.
The Syrian Presidency statement stressed that “these discussions reaffirm the commitment to the unity of Syrian territory and the sovereignty of the state, in line with the outcomes of the March 10 agreement.”
No official details were released regarding further outcomes of the meeting, but both sides emphasized continued dialogue to address the next steps in the transitional process.
