SDC delegation discusses Syria’s future with UK leadership

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) met with senior British officials on Monday during the annual conference of the ruling Labour Party in the United Kingdom. The meetings addressed key issues related to Syria’s future and peace efforts.

The SDC delegation, led by Hassan Mohammed Ali, held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Defence Secretary John Healey. According to an SDC statement, Ali conveyed a message from Mazloum Abbdi, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), calling on the British government to take a leading role in rebuilding Syria, supporting internal peace, and encouraging inclusive and just political solutions.

Prime Minister Starmer expressed his wishes for peace in Syria and confirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the process. The discussions with Defence Secretary Healey focused on political and military developments, especially regarding the commitment of the Syrian government to the March 10 agreement between the Transitional Government and the SDF.

The SDC statement added that the delegation participated in a meeting organized by the SDC representation in the UK in cooperation with Peter Lamb, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Kurds in the British Parliament. The meeting addressed political solutions and the future of Syria.

Hassan Mohammed Ali emphasized that the absolute centralization policies of previous governments had caused severe disasters, resulting in massacres and violations of minority rights, including Christian communities, and incidents such as the church bombing in Damascus. He described the March agreement as the start of a national project based on decentralization and building a democratic state with a bicameral parliament.

The SDC delegation’s engagement with British leadership highlights the continuing international diplomatic efforts to secure political stability in Syria, alongside the AANES and SDF’s ongoing work in governance and security.
