Australian delegation visits NES foreign relations office in Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES) announced on Sunday the visit of an Australian delegation to its headquarters in Qamishli to learn about the political and social situation in the region.
The delegation was headed by Australian Senator David Shoebridge and accompanied by a team. They were received by the Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department, Fanar al-Ka’it, and co-vice chairs Rubel Bahou and Gulistan Ali.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the overall situation in Syria, especially in the north and east, as well as the Democratic Autonomous Administration’s experience as a model to follow, highlighting the leading role of women in both civil and military institutions.
The two sides also emphasized the importance of a comprehensive political solution as the only way to end the ongoing Syrian crisis, the need to implement the March 10 Agreement, and the protection of the rights of all Syrian components, with particular attention to women’s rights.
David Shoebridge expressed appreciation for the Autonomous Administration’s experience, particularly regarding women’s participation in decision-making, stating that it “deserves support and replication as a unique democratic model in the region,” according to a statement from the Foreign Relations Department.
He also commended the efforts of the Autonomous Administration in maintaining stability and combating terrorism, praising the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces in confronting the Islamic State group (ISIS).
