AANES, Asayish condemn deadly attack on SDF-held village east of Aleppo
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) condemned on Saturday a deadly drone and artillery attack carried out by Damascus-linked factions on a village east of Aleppo.
In a statement, the Asayish said that at around 7 p.m. on Sep. 20, armed groups affiliated with the Syrian transitional government and backed by Turkey targeted residential houses in the village of Umm Tina in the countryside of Deir Hafer with drones followed by artillery bombardment.
The attack killed seven civilians, including women and children, and injured four others. The victims were identified as Amina Mohammed al-Azzawi (75), Fatima Hayya Obeid (65), Amina Mohammed al-Hamzeh (22), Aysha Hamzeh Obeid (18), Hamzeh Obeid al-Razzaq (4), Abdel Ghani Rahman al-Obeid (1), and Rahaf Hussein al-Azzawi (23).
The injured were named as Jomaa Hamoud al-Moheisen (60), Mariam Hamoud al-Moheisen (55), Halima Mahmoud al-Moheisen (65), and Amina Hamoud al-Amoura (20).
The Asayish condemned what it called a “brutal massacre” intended to break the will of the local population and spread fear among civilians. It stressed that “these violations will not go unpunished” and called on the international community to assume responsibility for protecting Syrians from such attacks.
The AANES also denounced the strike, describing it as part of a “continued hostile policy” against the people of the region. It said the assault came “at a time when Syria is in dire need of joint efforts to build a secure and stable future, free from violence and exclusion.”
The administration further urged accountability for the perpetrators and an end to impunity, while extending condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.
