Syrian FM raises new flag at Embassy in Washington D.C.

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Embassy in Washington, D.C., held on Friday a ceremony to raise the new Syrian flag for the first time, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad al-Shaibani.

The event took place during al-Shaibani’s official visit to the United States, where he is also scheduled to brief the United Nations Security Council in New York.

This visit marks the first by a high-level Syrian delegation to the U.S. since the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad on Dec. 8, 2024.

The delegation accompanying al-Shaibani includes Finance Minister Mohammed Yusr Barnieh and Central Bank Governor Abd al-Qadir Hasriya.

In addition to U.N. engagements, the Syrian officials will participate in the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

This marks Syria’s first high-level presence in international financial institutions in more than two decades.
