Gunmen target ex-members of Assad-affiliated militias in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A former member of Iranian-backed militias was killed, and a former leader of a militia affiliated with al-Assad regime was injured on Saturday in two separate shootings carried out by unidentified gunmen in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the village of al-Heri in the Abu Kamal countryside told North Press that unidentified gunmen shot dead Adham Hassan, a former member of the Iranian-backed Afghan Fatemiyoun militia, with a silenced pistol while he was working on his land in the center of the village.
The source added that Hassan had returned to al-Heri about two weeks ago after being released from prison, where he had been detained on charges of belonging to Iranian-backed militia.
In a separate incident, unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with Kalashnikov rifles at Ahmad al-Jabbar Kharaba, a former leader of the National Defense Forces (NDF) militia affiliated with al-Assad regime, in the al-Joura neighborhood in central Deir ez-Zor city.
Kharaba was injured and transferred to a city hospital for treatment.
