SDF fighter killed, two injured in ISIS attack in Deir ez-Zor countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Friday that one of its fighters was killed and two others were wounded in an attack carried out by an Islamic State (ISIS) cell in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

In a statement, the SDF said the attack targeted one of its patrols while it was conducting routine security operations in the village of Muheimida in the northwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

According to the statement, ISIS militants opened fire with machine guns from motorcycles, sparking a clash with SDF fighters. The militants eventually fled under fire.

The SDF described the attack as part of ISIS’ “futile attempts” to destabilize the region by exploiting Syria’s ongoing security vacuum.

The statement added that the SDF remains committed to pursuing ISIS sleeper cells and drying up their “material and moral resources,” stressing its determination to protect security and civil peace in northeastern Syria.
