U.S. forces dismiss Syrian Free Army Commander in al-Tanf – Sources
AL-TANF BASE, Syria (North Press) – U.S. forces stationed at the al-Tanf base, located near the Syrian-Jordanian-Iraqi border triangle, have dismissed Salem Turki al-Antari from his position as commander of the Syrian Free Army (SFA), informed sources told North Press on Tuesday.
The SFA, a U.S.-backed faction, operates in the al-Tanf area under American supervision.
According to the sources, the decision to remove al-Antari was issued on Monday, though the reasons for his dismissal remain unclear.
They added that while al-Antari was relieved of his leadership duties, he continues to serve as an officer within the Syrian Ministry of Defense.
The sources further indicated that a successor has not yet been confirmed, though two names are under consideration: Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Sayer al-Sayer, a founding member of the faction from Palmyra and affiliated with the al-Hadidin tribe, and Major Ahmad al-Tamer, formerly with the Martyr Ahmad al-Abdo Forces, from Morek in Hama Governorate.
As of Tuesday, neither the SFA’s official channels nor American outlets that typically report on the faction have issued any statements regarding al-Antari’s dismissal.
