Israeli forces advance into town in western Daraa countryside
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Israeli army units advanced on Sunday into the town of Saysoon in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside, local news outlet Daraa 24 reported.
According to the outlet, a convoy of 18 Israeli military vehicles entered the Yarmouk Basin region and was split into two groups. Twelve vehicles reportedly stationed in the center of Saysoon town, while six others took positions at the Jamlah garrison near the valley edge.
The source added that Israeli forces carried out search operations in a number of houses in the town, citing the alleged presence of weapons. No arrests were reported during the operation.
Saysoon, located in western Daraa, lies near the border triangle between Syria, Jordan, and Israel, an area that has witnessed heightened military tensions in recent years. The region is considered strategically sensitive due to its proximity to the occupied Golan Heights and recurring reports of cross-border operations.
The recent Israeli advance is part of a series of security incidents in southern Syria where Israeli forces have expanded patrols and surveillance in areas said to be linked to armed groups allegedly affiliated with Iran. However, local sources have often reported that residents are the first to bear the consequences of such incursions, including house raids and restrictions on movement.
Sunday’s operation in Saysoon ended without clashes or casualties, but local sources noted that Israeli troops remained stationed at several points inside the town at the time of reporting.
