Hezbollah denies Syrian claims of arresting its members in Damascus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Lebanese Hezbollah denied on Thursday a statement issued by the Syrian Interim Government’s Ministry of Interior, which claimed that a cell affiliated with the group was arrested in the western countryside of Damascus.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Interior announced that its forces had apprehended several individuals alleged to be members of Hezbollah. According to the ministry, the cell was reportedly active in the towns of Sa’sa and Kanaker, both located in Damascus’ western countryside.
In response, Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office issued a statement rejecting the claims. “We categorically and completely deny what the Syrian Interior Ministry mentioned regarding the affiliation of those arrested in western Damascus countryside to Hezbollah,” the statement read.
The office further reiterated, “Media Relations reaffirms once again what it has previously declared: Hezbollah has no presence and does not carry out any activity on Syrian territory.”
The statement marked the latest in a series of denials from Hezbollah regarding reports of its operational activities in Syria. Over the past decade, the group has been widely reported by international monitors and opposition sources to be involved in the Syrian conflict alongside Syrian government forces, though Hezbollah officials consistently deny active deployment.
The Interior Ministry did not release additional details about the identities of those arrested or the charges they face. No independent sources have confirmed the ministry’s account at the time of reporting.
