Car explosion kills and injures civilians in Aleppo’s al-Mashhad
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A car exploded on Friday in Aleppo’s al-Mashhad neighborhood, causing fatalities and injuries, though no official toll has been released so far.
Local sources told North Press that the vehicle, a pickup truck, detonated inside a car repair shop in the middle of the residential neighborhood.
The blast caused material damage to nearby shops and homes, witnesses said, while civil defense teams and municipal workers rushed to the scene to contain the fire and clear debris.
Government-affiliated media outlets reported that the vehicle was carrying ammunition when it exploded. They claimed the detonation occurred while a blacksmith was welding parts of the truck, which allegedly triggered the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities have not confirmed the nature of the vehicle or its cargo. Security forces cordoned off the site and launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Aleppo, once Syria’s commercial capital, has seen recurring security incidents in recent years, including car bombings and explosions.
The Friday incident underscores ongoing security challenges in government-held areas, where explosions linked to munitions storage, accidental blasts, and targeted attacks continue to pose risks to civilians.
