Senior ISIS figure captured by SDF in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday the arrest of a senior member of the Islamic State (ISIS) during a security operation in the city of Raqqa.
In a statement, the SDF said that its special operations units (TOL), supported by the US-led Global Coalition, carried out a precise raid that led to the arrest of Ahmad al-Mahmoud, also known as Abu Mansour.
The SDF explained that the operation followed close surveillance and intelligence gathering on the suspect’s movements and activities. After surrounding his hideout, SDF forces arrested him without any casualties.
According to the statement, Abu Mansour was involved in planning and carrying out attacks targeting SDF military posts, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), and civilian vehicles. These attacks aimed at spreading fear and destabilizing security across the region.
Raqqa, once the de facto capital of ISIS, was liberated in 2017 after months of SDF-led operations with Global Coalition support. Despite its territorial defeat, ISIS sleeper cells remain active, continuing to pose a threat to stability in northeast Syria.
The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing ISIS remnants and preventing further attacks, stressing that its security operations will continue to safeguard the population and maintain regional stability.
