SDF thwarts ISIS cells in Hasakah, arrests 51
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday the arrest of 51 “terrorists and wanted individuals” at the conclusion of their security operation in Hasakah, northeast Syria.
In a statement, the SDF said more than 3,000 fighters, including women, took part in the “Peoples’ Permanent Security” campaign, which resulted in the arrest of individuals accused of involvement in attacks against civilians.
Earlier in the day, the SDF confirmed the launch of a large-scale sweep in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), targeting ISIS hideouts and cells in Hasakah City and its surroundings.
According to the statement, “After nearly 14 hours of operations involving more than 3,000 fighters, the forces achieved all objectives by capturing 51 wanted terrorists, including those implicated in attacks on civilians, security, and service centers. The campaign also dismantled dangerous terrorist networks, including groups that planned attacks on al-Sina’a Prison and al-Hol Camp.”
The SDF reported seizing weapons depots, ammunition, and logistical support belonging to ISIS cells.
The statement described the operation as a pre-emptive strike against ISIS attempts to reorganize in the area. It noted that the campaign followed intelligence confirming ISIS efforts to turn al-Hasakah into a hub for its activities near al-Sina’a Prison.
The SDF further pointed out that the operation coincided with increased ISIS activity in other parts of Syria, particularly in the central desert and interior regions, where the group has exploited instability and security vacuums. It warned of attempts by ISIS cells to expand operations into northern and eastern Syria, where numerous prisons and camps still hold ISIS members.
The campaign marks a significant counterterrorism measure by the SDF and its security partners, underscoring their continued role in safeguarding northeast Syria.
