KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Co-chair of Kobani City Council, Narin Zada, said on Saturday that the ongoing census in Kobani, northern Syria, aims to gather essential information about the city’s population and community needs.
“The census is intended to determine the number of men, women, children, and people with disabilities, as well as their educational qualifications and other details related to the local community,” Zada told North Press.
“She explained that the project falls within the initiatives of the Office of Statistics and Planning, noting that the census began at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Work teams were organized in coordination with local communes, with most participants drawn from teachers and employees of the Autonomous Administration’s institutions
“In each commune, a large number of groups were established and distributed across neighborhoods,” Zada added. “Each team consists of two people working together to carry out the household census.”
Kobani includes several main communes with sub-communes under their authority. The heads of communes determine how teams are assigned to neighborhoods to ensure full geographic coverage of the city, according to Zada.
The census process began at 7:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. on the same day.
The initiative reflects ongoing local governance efforts in northern Syria, where municipal councils under the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) regularly implement projects to strengthen planning and improve services for residents.
