IDF seizes weapons in southern Syria during overnight raids
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military announced on Sunday that its forces carried out several overnight raids in southern Syria last week, seizing large quantities of weapons and detaining suspects for questioning.
According to the IDF, troops from the 474th “Golan” Regional Brigade searched multiple sites and uncovered caches that included Russian-made anti-tank missiles, Kalashnikov rifles, explosive devices, and other equipment.
The military said that field interrogators from Unit 504 of the Intelligence Directorate detained and questioned several individuals in the area as part of the operation.
Since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, the IDF has maintained nine positions inside southern Syria, most of them located within the UN-patrolled buffer zone along the border.
Israeli forces have been operating up to 15 kilometers inside Syrian territory, with the stated aim of preventing weapons from reaching groups Israel considers hostile.
