SDF announces dozens of fighters join its ranks in Deir Ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday the enlistment of 51 local fighters from Deir ez-Zor following the graduation of a new training course at the Martyr Mohammed al-Khalil Academy, the SDF said. The course was conducted under the Military Council of al-Kasra and named in honor of the late fighter Bassam al-Sultan.

According to the SDF statement, the 45-day program included a combination of political and ideological education alongside intensive military training on light and medium weapons. The training aims to enhance operational readiness and reinforce the capabilities of the SDF in maintaining regional security.

The graduation ceremony was attended by senior leaders of the al-Kasra Military Council and SDF officials. The event featured a military parade showcasing the newly trained fighters. Awad Salem al-Abd, a council commander, delivered remarks congratulating the graduates and highlighting the strategic importance of such courses in preparing competent fighters to safeguard the region amid ongoing security challenges.

The SDF emphasized that training initiatives such as this are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and stability in Deir ez-Zor, where local councils and security forces work to protect communities from residual threats and maintain civil order. The integration of local recruits into the SDF structure reflects continued collaboration between the Autonomous Administration and local populations in eastern Syria.

Authorities noted that the newly trained fighters will join existing SDF units across the region to support security operations, ensuring the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure. The SDF affirmed its commitment to maintaining stability in the area through coordinated training and deployment programs.
