Syrian security seizes Grad rockets truck bound for Lebanon
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian authorities announced on Tuesday the seizure of a truck carrying a large shipment of Grad rockets near the Lebanese border, preventing their transfer into Lebanon.
The Interior Ministry’s security branch in Homs Governorate said its forces conducted a targeted operation close to the border, intercepting the truck before it crossed into Lebanese territory. State-run Syrian TV reported that the confiscated weapons included multiple Grad rockets, which were immediately secured by authorities.
According to Syrian state media, the operation was the result of a planned ambush carried out by security units in the countryside of Homs. Officials confirmed that the cargo was seized and transferred to a secured facility, with a formal report of the incident filed as required under Syrian law.
The Interior Ministry has not provided details on whether arrests were made during the operation, nor did it disclose the origin of the weapons or the identity of those involved.
Syrian authorities regularly announce the interception of smuggled arms shipments along the porous Lebanese-Syrian border. In recent years, the border has been used by various groups for trafficking weapons and other illicit goods, despite intensified security measures.
