Lebanese army denies reports of warplane incursion into Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Lebanese Army denied on Sunday circulating reports claiming that its air force violated Syrian airspace to monitor military movements near the border.

In an official statement, the army said, “Some media outlets and websites are reporting that the Lebanese Air Force crossed into Syrian airspace to monitor military movements in border areas, amid threats by armed Syrian groups to enter Lebanon and carry out security operations.”

The statement emphasized, “There is absolutely no truth to these reports. Military units are monitoring the situation along the border and are taking necessary measures to secure and protect it.”

It further noted that “communication and coordination with the Syrian authorities are ongoing to follow up on any developments,” underscoring the importance of avoiding misinformation that could escalate tensions.

“The public is urged to act responsibly, verify the accuracy of information, and rely solely on official army statements for reliable updates,” the statement added.

The clarification comes as cross-border security remains a sensitive issue. Both Damascus and Beirut share a porous frontier that has previously witnessed armed infiltration attempts, smuggling, and sporadic clashes. Lebanese forces have increased their deployment in recent months to prevent border violations, while Syrian authorities also continue to monitor the shared line.

The Lebanese Army’s dismissal of the reports aims to curb speculation at a time of heightened vigilance along the Syrian-Lebanese border, where local communities often face the repercussions of instability.
