New wildfires erupt in Latakia countryside

Latakia, Syria (North Press) – New wildfires erupted on Tuesday in the countryside of Latakia Governorate,  northwest Syria, resulting in the burning of forest and olive trees near Jabal Turkman. The exact extent of the damage remains undetermined as firefighting efforts continue.

According to North Press correspondent in Latakia, the fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the village of Al-Shahroura, close to Jabal Turkman, consuming forest trees, olive groves, and grasslands. Civil defense teams rushed to the scene to control the blaze, which was ongoing at the time of reporting.

This latest outbreak follows a series of devastating wildfires last month that scorched thousands of hectares across the Syrian coastal region, prompting international assistance to help contain the widespread fires.

In addition, multiple fires broke out Monday in the areas of Qardaha and the Al-Ghab Plain near the village of Faqrou. The region’s rugged terrain has complicated firefighting operations and slowed access for emergency vehicles.

Efforts to control the fires are ongoing, with teams working to prevent further spread. Authorities have yet to release official assessments of total damages or casualties.
