SDF captures 2 ISIS sleeper cell members in Syria’s Hasakah
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday the capture of two members of a sleeper cell of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Hasakah countryside, northeastern Syria.
In a statement the People’s Defense Units (YPG) – the primary component of the SDF – said that the SDF and Global Coalition carried out on Aug. 9 a security operation in the town of Hawl in southeastern countryside of Hasakah.
“The operation targeted an ISIS cell active in moving and managing the group’s financial and logistical resources,” the statement read.
The YPG added that the operation resulted in the capture of two members of the cell, named as Saad Mukhlif al-Hussein (Abu Saif) and Mohammed Shakir Mukhlif.
“This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Syrian Democratic Forces to pursue ISIS elements, disrupt their activities, and safeguard the region from terrorist threats,” the statement concluded.
