Asayish: Three members injured in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three members of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) were injured on Tuesday in an armed attack that targeted their patrol vehicle in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, northeast Syria.
The Asayish announced in an official statement that the attack occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time in the town of Abriha, when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on a security vehicle using Kalashnikov rifles.
According to the statement, the three injured personnel sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. No fatalities were reported.
Following the incident, Asayish units, in coordination with other local security bodies, launched a wide-scale combing operation in the surrounding areas to track down the perpetrators. Joint patrols were deployed across key routes in the countryside in an effort to locate and apprehend those responsible.
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed intermittent security incidents in recent months, many of which have targeted members of the Asayish and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Armed cells suspected of affiliation with the Islamic State (ISIS) have been blamed for previous attacks, although no group immediately claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s assault.
The Asayish, supported by the SDF, play a central role in maintaining internal stability and countering insurgent activity across the region. In past operations, they have arrested dozens of suspected militants and dismantled several sleeper cells in the Deir ez-Zor countryside.
