SDF dismantles ISIS cell in Hawl Camp with Coalition support
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The People’s Defense Units (YPG), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Wednesday the dismantling of an Islamic State (ISIS) cell operating within Hawl Camp in the eastern countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
In an official statement, the YPG said that the SDF’s Military Operations Team (MOT), with support from the U.S.-led Global Coalition, conducted a “targeted” security operation on July 28, 2025, inside the camp.
The operation led to the capture of two ISIS operatives who were reportedly responsible for coordinating the group’s internal security activities within the camp.
According to the statement, the detainees were part of ISIS’ leadership structure and had previously participated in operations in both Iraq and Syria.
Despite the group’s territorial defeat, the suspects “continued their affiliation by maintaining group’s influence inside al-Hol,” the statement read.
Hawl Camp has long been a hotspot for extremist activity, and this latest operation reflects ongoing efforts by the SDF and international partners to neutralize lingering ISIS threats in the region.
