SDF reports fighter targeted in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that one of its fighters was injured in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, amid a rise in security incidents targeting local personnel in the region.
In an official statement, the SDF said the attack took place in the village of al-Bu Hamida, where armed assailants opened fire on a fighter as he was returning home.
According to the statement, the victim sustained moderate injuries after being hit by three bullets and was promptly transferred to a medical facility.
Medical sources cited by the SDF confirmed that the injured fighter’s condition is currently stable and that he remains under observation.
In a separate incident, the SDF reported that a civilian employee working at the “House of the Wounded” in the town of Abu Khashab was killed on Monday.
The man was shot outside his home by unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle. The same attack also left his wife severely wounded, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), which governs the area with the support of the SDF and its Internal Security Forces (Asayish), continues to face security challenges from unidentified armed groups that frequently target its personnel and civil institutions.
The SDF has led ongoing efforts to ensure security and stability in the region, particularly in Deir ez-Zor, a province that has witnessed sporadic violence linked to remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) and other hostile elements. The SDF, backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, has repeatedly carried out counterterrorism operations in the area to dismantle sleeper cells and prevent destabilizing activities.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for either of the latest attacks, such incidents underscore the persistent threats facing the security and administrative structures in areas under AANES control. The SDF emphasized its commitment to continuing its operations to track down those responsible and prevent further attacks.
