Two former militiamen killed in drive-by shooting in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two men were killed on Wednesday evening in the town of Gharanij in the southeastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, after being shot by unidentified gunmen, according to a local source.
The source told North Press that the assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the victims—identified as Salman al-Zabin and Jihad al-Mahfash—using a machine gun.
The two young men were also riding a motorcycle and were en route to their homes when they were ambushed and fatally shot.
The source added that both individuals were previously affiliated with an armed group led by Ibrahim al-Hifl, which was reportedly backed by Iran.
The identity and motives of the attackers remain unknown.
