Ceasefire violated in Suwayda as humanitarian crisis deepens – Military
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Commander of the Suwayda Military Council, Tareq al-Shufi, told North Press on Monday that the declared ceasefire in Suwayda was not upheld, as armed groups from local tribes and Bedouins continue to launch coordinated attacks on the governorate from multiple directions.
“Today, they are targeting the village of Ariqa and the outskirts of Suwayda,” al-Shufi said, highlighting the ongoing escalation despite the truce.
He described the humanitarian situation in the governorate as “extremely dire,” with essential services entirely absent.
“Life in Suwayda has come to a standstill,” he added. “People are living under severe conditions. Many have been forcibly displaced and are now on the streets with no shelter.”
Basic services have completely collapsed, al-Shufi noted. There is no access to clean water, electricity, food, fuel, or medical supplies. Hospitals have been out of service for four consecutive days, and telecommunications are frequently disrupted for long periods.
Al-Shufi also emphasized that the Syrian government has made no visits to Suwayda and has shown no serious initiative to stop the bloodshed or address the rapidly deteriorating conditions.
“So far, there has been no genuine move to find a solution that ends the crisis,” he said.
