Suwayda factions allow SARC aid convoy in, block government delegation
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Informed sources told North Press on Sunday that local factions in the southern Syrian governorate of Suwayda allowed part of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) convoy to enter the city, while barring a high-level government delegation from doing so.
According to the Syrian Civil Defense, the delegation included the Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the Governor of Suwayda, the SARC President, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Program (WFP), and UNICEF.
The civil defense stated that “humanitarian aid convoys and emergency response teams have been waiting for a second consecutive day at the outskirts of Suwayda to gain access to the city and deliver life-saving medicines and medical supplies to local hospitals.”
As of 12:30 p.m. Damascus time on Sunday, July 20, the medical and relief convoy remained at the administrative border of the governorate, awaiting permission to enter the city, according to the sources.
