Asayish officer killed, 4 injured in anti-drug raid in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Saturday that one of their officers was killed and four others were injured during an armed confrontation with a suspected drug trafficker south of Qamishli city in northeastern Syria.
In a statement, the Asayish said their units carried out a pre-dawn raid in the village of Tartab, a former Syrian regime stronghold located south of Qamishli.
“During the raid on the home of a known drug trafficker, who was previously affiliated with the National Defense Forces (NDF), our forces came under heavy gunfire from multiple directions and responded accordingly,” the statement read.
The clash resulted in the death of a member of the Anti-Drug Unit, the injury of four officers, the killing of one drug trafficker, the injury of another, and the arrest of several individuals wanted in connection with narcotics-related offenses.
The Asayish described the targeted suspect as “one of the most dangerous individuals wanted for drug crimes,” noting that he had a long record of trafficking and distributing narcotics, with previous confessions linking him to smuggling operations that posed a direct threat to public safety.
The Asayish are continuing sealing off the area and are conducting a sweep to locate and apprehend additional suspects.
