SDF commander calls for safe corridors, end to violence in Suwayda
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), General Mazloum Abdi, stated on Wednesday that his forces had received urgent appeals from residents of Suwayda, southern Syria, to help secure safe passages for civilians and to halt the ongoing violence.
“Targeting women, children, and religious leaders is a crime against humanity and against the values of the Syrian people,” Abdi said.
“These aggressive actions must end immediately, and those responsible must be held accountable,” he added.
He stressed that after 14 years of war, it is time to end the bloodshed. “Syria will not rise again without dialogue and cooperative efforts,” he added.
Abdi also underscored the national importance of the Druze community’s grievances. He said, “The cause of the Druze people is a national issue, and it must be resolved through constitutional means and dialogue—not by force.”
Since July 13, Suwayda and its surrounding countryside have witnessed rapidly escalating clashes between Druze armed groups and Syrian security forces, resulting in hundreds of casualties and injuries.
