Clashes continue in Syria’s Suwayda, Israeli airstrikes target positions
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Violent clashes continued on Wednesday for a second consecutive day in the southern Syrian city of Suwayda, following the deployment of forces from the Syrian Ministries of Defense and Interior into the city.
The fighting between local Sunni Bedouin tribes and Syrian government forces on one side, and Druze armed factions on the other, included the use of heavy weaponry and rocket-propelled grenades in residential neighborhoods of the city.
Field sources told North Press that central Suwayda witnessed intense exchanges of gunfire overnight, including rocket shelling that led to civilian injuries.
Access to affected areas remains limited due to the widespread presence of snipers across several key locations.
Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes carried out seven airstrikes between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, targeting positions affiliated with the Syrian Defense and Interior Ministries, as well as an artillery battalion in Daraa countryside.
As of the time of publication, there are no confirmed figures—official or otherwise—regarding casualties or material damage resulting from the ongoing clashes and Israeli air raids.
These developments come amid growing instability in southern Syria, with fears mounting that the violence could spread to other regions, according to the same sources.
