3 former regime operatives arrested in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces of the Syrian Transitional Government arrested on Monday three former operatives of the Assad regime in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor.
A security source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that General Security patrols raided the Ayash neighborhood in the western part of the city and detained three individuals affiliated with the former regime who had refused to participate in reconciliation processes.
Among those arrested was Abdel Salem al-Khalif, also known as Abu Faisal Jawiyeh, a former First Sergeant in the notorious Air Force Intelligence Directorate. He is widely known in the area for his involvement in torture and other serious human rights violations.
The source added that during the raid, security units also seized a cache of weapons and ammunition found in the possession of the detainees.
