Firefighting efforts continue for seventh day in Syria’s Latakia

LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Civil Defense announced on Wednesday that intensive ground and aerial operations to combat the wildfires raging in the Latakia countryside, western Syria, have entered their seventh consecutive day.

In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, the Civil Defense said that firefighting teams on the ground, supported by aircraft, are working to contain three major fire zones still active in the region.

The Civil Defense noted that teams are encountering significant challenges due to rugged terrain, strong winds, limited access to water, and the long distances to water sources.

Despite the difficult conditions, no civilian injuries have been reported so far. The fires have burned approximately 14,000 hectares of land.

Firefighting teams continue efforts to prevent the flames from reaching populated areas, extinguish active fires, and protect remaining forested zones.

Meanwhile, Syrian Minister of Interior Anas Khattab stated that they will conduct a reconnaissance operation in the forests of Latakia countryside to investigate the possible involvement of individuals in starting the fires.
