ISIS gunmen target home, fuel station of oil investor in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Suspected Islamic State (ISIS) militants attacked on Tuesday the home and fuel station of an oil well investor in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the region reported that the attackers hurled a grenade and opened fire with automatic weapons at the home and gas station belonging to Raed al-Akeerah, a prominent oil field investor, in the village of al-Jarzi.
According to the source, the attack was allegedly motivated by al-Akeerah’s refusal to pay “zakat”—a form of tax or extortion demanded by the group.
The attack resulted in material damage only, with no casualties reported.
This marks the third attack on al-Akeerah by ISIS militants since the beginning of the year, the source noted.
