U.S. envoy delivers roadmap to Lebanon ahead of Israeli strikes in south

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, made an unannounced visit to Lebanon on the eve of Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon to discuss a proposed plan to disarm Hezbollah, Reuters reported on Monday.

The visit came just hours after Israel launched air and ground attacks near the southern border, escalating already heightened tensions in the region.

Reuters revealed that Barrack’s proposal that was delivered to Lebanese officials during his last visit on June 19, would see Hezbollah fully disarmed within four months in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops occupying several posts in south Lebanon and a halt to Israeli air strikes.

According to the report, Lebanese officials have been working on a formal reply to U.S. demands that Hezbollah fully disarm across Lebanese territory by November.
