SDF captures ISIS cell planning attacks in Raqqa, seizes 500 kg of TNT
Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday that they captured a four-member Islamic State (ISIS) cell during a targeted security operation in Raqqa, northern Syria.
According to an official statement, the operation was carried out on July 5 following extensive surveillance of the group’s activities.
The SDF said its forces conducted a precise and carefully planned security operation targeting a dangerous ISIS terrorist cell that was actively planning attacks against our forces and local security agencies.
The raid, which took place within Raqqa city, was launched after the cell’s hideouts were identified through continuous monitoring. SDF units encircled the location and successfully apprehended all four members of the cell.
Initial interrogations revealed that the detainees were involved in several prior attacks that targeted the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), resulting in the deaths of multiple personnel in Raqqa city and its surrounding countryside.
The statement further noted that the cell members admitted to fleeing to Turkish-controlled areas, including Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad, following their attacks.
They also confessed to planning additional operations in northern and eastern Syria, specifically targeting SDF units, local security forces, civilian institutions, and the general population.
Crucially, the operatives acknowledged receiving military support—including weapons and ammunition—from areas under Turkish occupation in northern Syria.
They also confirmed having received a shipment of 500 kilograms of TNT, which was intended for use in attacks against SDF positions.
The SDF emphasized that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle ISIS sleeper cells and protect stability in the region.
