48 families leave camp in Hasakah to hometown in Deir ez-Zor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – 48 displaced families departed on Thursday al-Arisha Camp, located south of Hasakah city in northeastern Syria, to return to their areas of origin in Deir ez-Zor Governorate and its countryside in the east of the country.
The movement took place as part of the voluntary return program supervised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in coordination with the camp administration.
Salwa Jojo, co-chair of al-Arisha Camp, told North Press that the latest group included 280 individuals from Deir ez-Zor and its rural surroundings.
She emphasized that the return process was carried out under direct supervision by UNHCR representatives.
This marks the eleventh group to leave the camp under the UNHCR program. A previous batch, consisting of 51 families (244 individuals), departed on June 22.
According to Jojo, the total number of groups that have exited al-Arisha Camp to date has now reached 13.
Al-Arisha Camp currently hosts hundreds of internally displaced families from various regions across Syria. Voluntary return operations are conducted regularly for those wishing to return to their original areas, particularly in and around Deir ez-Zor.
The efforts follow a decision by the AANES to facilitate the voluntary return of all Syrian IDPs from camps.
Since the fall of the previous Syrian regime, more than 12,000 displaced individuals have returned to their home areas through the voluntary return program.
