Syria allows entry of Turkish-Syrian nationals through border crossings

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The General Authority for Land and Maritime Border Crossings under Syria’s Transitional Government announced on Tuesday the implementation of a decision allowing Syrians holding Turkish citizenship to enter the country through land border crossings with Turkey.

“We welcome our Syrian compatriots who hold Turkish citizenship and have begun crossing into their homeland through various border points linking Syria and Turkey,” said Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the Authority.

Alloush added that staff from the General Authority are deployed across all land crossings, from the Yayladağı-Kessab crossing in the west to the Karkamis-Jarablus crossing in the east.

The announcement follows a memorandum of understanding signed on June 28 between the Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

The agreement aims to restore cooperation in international road transport for both passengers and goods and to facilitate the movement of trucks and transit traffic between the two countries.

The memorandum outlines the resumption of land transport operations in accordance with the International Road Transport Agreement signed by both sides on May 10.

It also includes reciprocal permission to use Ro-Ro maritime transport services between ports and a commitment by both parties to apply reasonable and mutually agreed road fees, with flexibility for future adjustments.
